A Voice For The Wild Cats of the World

Book Review : Animal Underworld: Inside America’s Black Market for Rare and Exotic Species

First and foremost, Animal Underworld: Inside America’s Black Market for Rare and Exotic Animals by Alan Green is not for the faint of heart.  I made the mistake of reading this book right before going to bed and this book WILL give you nightmares.  Animal Underground is a gritty look at the exotic animal market in the United States which leaves no entity (whether zoo, sanctuary or state wildlife agency) unchallenged and free of responsibility.  The puzzle of how these agencies, organizations and zoos (sometimes) interact is broken down and exposed.

This book will open your eyes and force you to question the failing systems that are in place that were designed to protect wild animals.  Although Animal Underworld was published in 1999, the information is still relative which unfortunately may indicate things have not changed that much since the book was released.
