International Society For Endangered Cats

A Voice For The Wild Cats of the World

Olympic Bobcat

Opening day at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics had an unexpected competitor. Taking first place in the fence-jumping, this bobcat Lynx rufus made international news around the world. His appearance astonished many competitors and spectators, and many news reports erroneously called him a Canada lynx.

Canada has three indigenous wild cat species – bobcat, Canada lynx and cougar – and none of them are currently endangered. This agile little feline served as a magnificent example to the world that Canada is a country with abundant wildlife. Let us hope it remains that way for many years to come.

We would like to thank our twitter friend Mr. Guilt for sending us the link to this astonishing video taken by Sydney Padua of London, England! (click on the icon on the bottom with the four little arrows to watch it full screen size).
